San Jorge Eco-Lodges and Botanical Reserves is the first of its kind in South America. We own eight private nature reserves in Ecuador, containing eleven different eco-systems throughtout the east and west slopes of the Andes and to the Pacific coast. We also own six pritvate eco-lodges located inside the reserves which are comfortably rustic and environmentally friendly, offering quality services. San Jorge properties are dedicated to eco-tourism, environmental conservation and community sustainability

Our private reserves and surroundings, offer over 1450 possible bird species, 80 hummingbirds, 60 waterfalls, 10 rivers, 3000 wild orchids, 4500 butterflies, enormous amount of mammals and diverse flora & fauna. We offer the best options for seniors, beginners, families and hard-core birdwatchers.

Dr. George Cruz

Dr. George Cruz, an Ecuadorian - American Citizen, was born in 1961 in New Jersey, United States and in 1963 his family returned to Ecuador. He was educated at the American School of Quito and received a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1987 from Central University in Quito. Cruz completed his post-graduate studies in small animal surgery at New York Flushing Medical Center in 1998.  In 1999 he received a Hotel Management license from the Instur Hotel Management School in Quito.

As the Founder of San Jorge Eco-Lodge & Botanical Reserve of Quito, Ecuador, in 1990 Dr. Cruz established the historical, archeological, botanical and ornithological research programs at the Eco-lodge’s reserves. He oversaw the development of resources to provide medical aid and educational support to residents of surrounding villages.  He is the creator of The Magic Birding & Hiking Circuit. Dr. Cruz has been a natural and cultural history guide since 1995 and a birding guide since 2000. He is also an accomplished writer, paint artist and photographer as well.

Ing. Karen Pucachaqui

Karen, is an Ecuadorian recently graduated from the University of the Armed Forces, she studied Hospitality and Tourism and is the administrative assistant of San Jorge Eco-lodges. With the advice of Dr. Cruz, Karen developed the web site and they are currently working to offer the best tourist services while maintaining the care and protection of nature. Karen is ready to receive and provide the best services during your stay in San Jorge
